Remembering Those Who Served and Those Who Are Serving Our Country

I was in my hometown yesterday for a photo session and as I drove past the courthouse something grabbed my attention. There were crosses with flags draped over them remembering the ones we have lost in combat from Scurry County. I have never seen Snyder do this and it was really moving. I thought after my session I would go back and see if there were names on the crosses. There is one in particular that I was looking for, my Great Aunt LaVerne Farquhar. She is my Papa's older sister. Please read below:

"On February 10th, 1944, Second Lieutenant LaVerne Farquhar of the 2nd Auxiliary Surgical Group working in the 33rd Field Hospital in Anzio was killed when artillery shells hit..."

You can read more about LaVerne and all the great nurses that served our country in WW II in the book: And If I Perish : Frontline U. S. Army Nurses in World War II, by Evelyn M. Monahan and Rosemary L. Neidel
